October 2025 - Challenge #1 Around the World

It's October 12th which can only mean one thing... it's time for Challenge #1 round here at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge and I'm excited to see how you interpret it.

1st let's take a look at the kit again

So many globes in the inspirational kit so I thought that would be the place to go for our 1st challenge this month! Use a globe on your layout. They make for a great cluster starter or a nice touch to finish off the cluster. A cutfile maybe? for a great background. So many possibilities with this challenge.

 Guest Forger Lori

Made a fantastic layout adding the globes with a strip of pattern paper. To see more about this layout check it out over at her blog

Master Forger Ryann got some photos from when her son went to Barcelona, Spain.  These buildings are made by an artist who was creating an upscale housing development in an area that was run-down and old.  The homes he created became a historical monument.  Master Forger Ryann used texture paste through a template and added gems while the paste was wet to create the corners.  The globe in the lower right was paper pieced from a map paper and some copper foil cardstock.

Master Forger Brandi took the opportunity to create an "about me" style layout highlighting her travels abroad in her late teens/early 20s. This cut-apart card from Photoplay "Travelogue" kit was a perfect accent piece.

Come back in a couple of days for our next challenge.  Don't forget, we still have a lot more to come this month.

October 2025 - Mini Kit and Reveal

Mini kits are great if you want quick projects, or if ideas are sparked by just small bits of the inspiration. We have Master Forger Tara and Master Forger Christine here with what they came up with for a mini kit

1st let's take a look at the kit again

Master Forger Tara has a video sharing her kit and her first layout using her kit HERE

Here are some photos of her not-so-mini-kit:

I used the October 6 sketch from the 30 Days of Sketches With Christy’s Beautiful Life, Series 19 to create my layout:

For my second layout, I created a layout about a very cool house we saw in Kentucky on our way to the Amish store.

Master Forger Christine shared her kit and layouts in THIS video.

Funny how both forgers dug into 49 and Market for products in their mini kits! (Peep the enamel bits in their kit photos)  Most of Christine's comes from the "Wherever" collection, although she did find some Stamperia rubons.  In fact, Christine decided to put several rub-ons into her mini kit in an effort to use them up.

Christine also had the same cut file as the inspiration kit.  Also included is a chipboard sheet with just a few pieces, and some scraps of travel themed paper as well as full sheets.

Christine was able to complete three 12x12 layouts with her mini kit.

The first layout, she used that fun cut file.  This was the perfect layout to use some of those paper scraps.  One to back the cut file and a few to layer behind the photo.  She added a couple of rub-ons (see the one in the chipboard frame?) A couple of chipboard suitcases, plane, and enamel hearts finished off this layout showcasing her daughter and son-in-law's love of travel.

The second layout she used a piece of highly patterned/printed 12x12 sheet of paper.  The photo fit neatly in the "frame" printed on it.  The title "Wonder Enough" is a rub-on and she used a rub-on to accent the journaling spot.  She used another one of those "leftover" chipboard frames plus a few more chipboard bits and pieces around the page.  Confession: Christine used AI to write the little poem she used for journaling.

For the last layout, Christine really wanted to use the giant globe rub-on. And she had only scraps left so it was time to snag a piece of kraft cardstock as a base.  After layering the scraps, she used a long phrase rub-on to the left, basically like a border.  She then added just one more rub-on, which she cut in half, to the top and bottom of the photo block.  The title was multi-word, multi-font, and perfectly tied into the globe rub-on.

She is loving this mini-kit approach and hopes you try it too!

October 2025 - Forgeries on the Fourth

Welcome back!  Today our Master Forgers are going to show you how you can take products from the inspiration kit and create your own version, using supplies from your stash and some imagination.

1st let's take a look at the kit again

Master Forger Misty

Misty is here with multiple ideas as usual.
They are pretty straightforward, but also just pretty!

Wax Seals decorated with gold a Sharpie marker and a white Posca paint pen. (She liked the black one in the inspo kit but didn't have black wax.)

Faux Metal photo corners. By adding gold Sharpie and then clear Nuvo Drops to ordinary paper photo corners, they take on the look of patinaed metal.

Vellum Tickets: She is a fan of vellum and had to recreate some of the tickets. She had more ideas than time for decorating. But more can be done later.

Bonus Arrows: She loved the idea of the arrows in the inspo sticker sheet. Using her fav Nuvo drops, she hand drew these images on a silicone mat, then them dry over night and now has "puffy" embellishments ready for a project.

See that white paper with the circled plus signs?  I decided to forge it.
I had this paper in my kit.

Using my journalling pen I drew a circle around each plus sign.
It now looks like this.

Master Forger Jojo
I used the stamps in my kit and stamped some tickets, claim baggage tickets and other travel journaling tags. I stamped them with black so they will match any layout.

I took inspiration from the sticker sheet that was in this month's inspiration kit. I noticed there were postage stamps and word icons related to travel. I recreated these embellishments by stamping travel themed words and icons onto white cardstock. I had to fussy cut them since I don't have a matching die. I do have a postage stamp punch so I used that to punch "postage stamps" from a piece of travel themed paper. This is a great way to stretch your supplies by using what you already have.

I had a couple of ideas for this month. Since I have quite a few Spellbinders wax seals that I can make (and should more often) I made a few of these. I played with some leftover pink wax that was cooled in the heat tool, and added some white pearl wax beads. I also used midnight blue and then some burgundy, gold and green! This was a ton of fun to do.

Next I made some globes to mimic the wood veneer globes in the kit. These were a Stampin Up! World Map dies, and Beautiful World stamps which I did on some brown pattern paper.

Lastly I was inspired by the typewriter key paper, and since I have a close to my heart type-writer key stamp, I thought that would work great! Instead of doing random letters, I repeat stamped Happy Life in “off the rails” 49&Market ink on grey card stock. Can’t wait to use this!!

Come back in a couple of days and check out our mini kit reveal.  Don't forget, we still have a lot more to come this month.

October 2025 - Just the Gist of it

Ever have a bit of trouble putting that kit together? Don't know where to start?? I find the easiest place for me to start is with the papers.

1st let's take a look at the kit again

Sometimes the kit companies will put out pictures of the A side and B side of the papers:

From these I can make a list of what I'm looking for in my stash. Maps, blues, text, postcards, typewriter type, old maps, ships, stripes and compass rose. This can head me to my travel stash and start looking and you can use a variety of colors and icons when it comes to travel paper.

From there the embellishments just mimic the paper. Maybe start with a travel collection and then add a few stamps and stencils that will play along with the theme.

Come back in a couple of days and check out our forgeries.  Don't forget, we still have a lot more to come this month.
